GMHRC Partners with Aetna to Expand Women’s Care in Southeast Missouri
A $720,000 commitment from Aetna, CVS Health is powering Care Connect: bringing women’s care and connections to maternal, prenatal, postpartum and mental health services directly to rural communities.
In Missouri, 11.2% of babies are born to women living in rural counties, yet only 3.7% of maternity care providers practice there. Care Connect exists to close that gap, one community at a time.
Through this partnership with Aetna Better Health of Missouri and Missouri Highlands Health Care, GMHRC launched a fully staffed mobile clinic program now serving 10 sites across Southeast Missouri over the next year. The clinic opened its doors with a ribbon-cutting in Poplar Bluff and a public launch event in Piedmont, open to every member of the community, regardless of insurance status.

The City of Poplar Bluff marked the occasion with an official proclamation, declaring June 9, 2026 as Women’s Mobile Healthcare Initiative Day. Signed by Mayor Robert L. Smith, it recognized the launch of the Aetna Women’s Healthcare Initiative as “an important investment in delivering compassionate, community-based healthcare services directly to families in need,” and urged all citizens to recognize the importance of maternal health, healthcare access and community partnership in building healthier families and stronger communities.
“This initiative demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing some of the most pressing health care challenges facing rural communities. By combining resources, expertise and community insight, we can expand access to essential maternal care and improve outcomes for families across Missouri.”
Care Connect is proof of what’s possible when funders, providers and researchers build together: no one remains invisible, no matter how far the nearest clinic.
